Flower Drum’s claim to fame would have to be the Peking duck. But, with fresh ingredients bought daily from the market, every dish is a treat. From the baked crab shell to the lamb claypot, each is skilfully executed. Be sure to ask the staff about the ‘unpublished’ menu if you want to go the extra mile. Go for the Specials and Banquet menu, the Cantonese secrets, the atmosphere, the fact that since opening in 1975 the restaurant has grown and grown in stature and for the simple fact that the food is impeccable. We are adoring the South Australian King Prawns, steamed with XO chilli sauce in a lotus leaf matched handsomely with a 2012 T Gallant ‘Tribute’ Pinot Gris, Mornington Peninsula Vic.
