Founded in 1861, the National Gallery of Victoria is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia. Spread across two magnificent locations, the NGV holds a treasury of over 70,000 pieces that span thousands of years, a must-see for art and history lovers alike. The NGV International on St Kilda Road is an iconic Melbourne building, hosting international artists, exhibitions and events. Not to miss in 2017 are the latest Winter Masterpieces exhibition: Van Gogh and the Seasons (April to July), and Every Brilliant Eye – Australian Art of the 1990s (May to September). Head to NGV Australia at the Ian Potter Centre in Federation Square, and you’ll find more Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous art on permanent display than at any other gallery in the world. Not just for adults, NGV also runs programs for children, so there’s always an opportunity to learn.
