Greyhound racing with its long history is an integral part of the Australian sporting landscape. Sandown Park is Australia’s premier greyhound racing venue and is home to the world’s richest greyhound race, the TAB Melbourne Cup.
Sandown Park, located in the City of Greater Dandenong in Melbourne’s south-east, is essentially a community-based club attracting tourists and greyhound enthusiasts from all over the world. The club generally races every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon with a 12-race program, boasting a first class bar, dining and spectator facilities. Guests are always most welcome, entry is FREE and there are always plenty of special monthly promotions and entertainment options, with fun for the whole family to enjoy.
The venue also houses Greyhounds Entertainment – open seven days a week – with gaming machines, a TAB sports wagering outlet, plus bars and great dining.
The Greyhound Community Fund is a joint partnership of Greyhounds Entertainment and the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club, supporting causes in the City of Greater Dandenong, in addition to a wide variety of national charities.
Sandown Park highly supports the welfare and ethical treatment of the greyhounds and has invested heavily in first class facilities for the animals.
In addition to being one of the fastest animals on the earth, a greyhound also makes a great pet. Of course, they love to run, but did you know they also like to sleep up to 18 hours a day! They also like to play and cuddle. Sandown proudly supports GAP (Greyhound Adoption Program), which homes dogs after their sporting careers conclude.
