Celebrating its 160th year of entertaining Castlemaine, the Theatre Royal has previously served as a ballroom, auction rooms and hotel. In its current incarnation it is a cinema, screening a selection of popular films. The Theatre remains a thriving cultural hub, hosting tango classes and live music which has seen the likes of US indie queen Cat Power play there multiple times. Billed in its current season are Aussie acts James Reyne and modern-rock maidens Stonefield.
